The low profile extractor fan has been designed to fit into the décor of the space required as well as giving an adequate extraction of air from the room concerned. It is important in choosing the fan to decide its requirement and its working time and to buy accordingly. The basic low profile fan is the typical workhorse fan built to change the air within a room quietly and quickly.
The reason for the change of air is important in that it will determine the working cycle of the extractor fan, by definition it sounds as if you are extracting a problem and that is obviously true. The two main reasons are obnoxious smells and air replacement due to poor air quality. The smell replacement is obvious and the only requirement here is to get a fan suitable of removing the smell quickly and efficiently, even here the problem is expanded in that the smell may be short term in which the fan will need to come on and off as required or longer term in the case of longer cooking or other similar problems.
The two problems may require totally different fans so calculate the air you need to move. There is also the problem of air replacement to make the living conditions better with fresh air. If there are a number of people working or living in a small space with no ventilation then the need to change that air becomes important from a health point of view as well as removing an unpleasant situation.
The low profile fan is designed to fit into the wall or the ceiling unobtrusively and the slimline design has a smooth white finish with a flush fitting to fit into the décor of the room. Most fans are designed for an overrun of between 1 and 20 minutes to carry on working after a person has left the room and leave it fresh for the next time. A typical square frame 4” extractor fan will quietly extract about 85 cubic metres per hour or 23 litres per second and they are designed for fitting with a 4” flexible or fixed pipe through the ceiling or the wall. They will work well in both places but it is important to take some time to pick the best site for the space concerned. The unit is usually double insulated so that no earth is required, yet it will still remain electrically safe.
