LED Lamps
Welcome to the future!
LED lamps are becoming increasingly popular every day, with significant progress being made in the last few years LED lamps are now available brighter, cheaper & in more shapes & styles than ever before!
With extremely low running costs, ultra long life & lack of maintenance costs these lamps are the future!
Available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes & colours, please click on the relevant sections above for further information.
The concept of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting has been resisted in many cases over the past years for a range of reasons ranging from cost of the lighting units and bulbs to the type of light given (is it too harsh?). This is changing rapidly and there are now far more choices to be found on the market and these are well worth examining.
The costs of electrical power has changed so significantly over that past few years and with the continuing uncertainty in the political situations of the oil producing countries of the Middle East this is not about to change for the better significantly over the next few years. There may be some volatility but there will be a general energy cost upward trend.
Replacing the lighting systems with LED lighting systems offers a very good saving on power costs with the present bulbs and they also offer a reduction in cost of the bulbs on the present bulbs over the life cycle of the bulbs. The present examination of the way the market is focussing its efforts seem to show that the LED systems are becoming far more used than the other available energy saving systems.
Originally the LED lighting systems were too small and insignificant, but the new systems provide a good light at about a fifth of the energy used on the normal bulbs. This naturally means that the cost of the power used is down to a fifth of its original cost! The bulbs are invariably more expensive but the life cycle is immense compared to normal bulbs and the long term cost of bulbs is very much in the users favour.
The original LED bulbs were quite underpowered but the latest designs can be used in applications right up to floodlight level and this means that the market can be supplied across the spectrum. The light has been a very harsh white light, but the continual development of the lights is making the whole thing a lot better and the latest bulbs can be obtained in a subdued form as well as a bright light.
The suppliers are quite rightly claiming a great reduction in the carbon footprint given by these lights over their lifetime. In fact the quantity of Carbon Dioxide saved in the lifetime of a simple bulb can run into several tonnes in weight. A complete house filled with these bulbs will save a good many tonnes of CO2 besides a great energy saving.
The LED as a standard light bulb took off with the development of the multi LED unit construction bulb, which is now becoming the standard. The ganging of several LED’s makes it possible to get the full power of equivalent of the fluorescent or incandescent bulbs used in the past. To give the ultimate example a good electrical supplier like ourselves can supply floodlights up to 100W LED which is equivalent to 1,000 Watts in a fluorescent light.
The standard domestic bulb has now developed to take into account the present fittings and the standard GU10 fitting is now easily available as is most other electrical light fittings. These bulbs emit less than a third of the heat that a standard bulb emits during its performance and this can help considerably in the applications that it can be used in.
The durability of these lights is its strongest point in that they are extremely robust and last a typical 30,000 hours. This equates to many years life and the bulb changes are so rare that it reduces the incidents where you have a bulb failure to the barest minimum. The chances of being stuck in the dark are almost zero and there will be little chance of being disturbed on a cold winter’s night.
Probably the biggest change in the latest LED bulbs is the ability to get bulbs with a light quality that fits the requirements of the application. The colour of the LED light can be altered by changing the light emitting diode to give a different frequency of light and the work that has been carried out in this area now allows the user to purchase warm white lights that give a sitting area that comfortable feeling, or it is possible to get a cool white light that will be good in a kitchen area or in a place where a focussed light is required to highlight an area or object. The lights are instant and dimmable which gives great flexibility as they can be used in areas that require instant light as well as soft seating areas.
