Replacing An Extractor Fan
Mega Sale
When should you look at buying a replacement fan?

An extractor fan generally has a long life, but there are many reasons why you might want to replace yours; perhaps it's wasting too much energy, costing you too much money - or perhaps it's just not doing the job. Do any of the below sound familiar?

BathroomToo Low Power

Are you fed up with going into your downstairs toilet and finding it a little too smelly? This can be embarrassing if you have lots of friends around, as nobody likes a smelly bathroom. An extractor fan which is too low on power for the situation won't be able to shift air as quickly as is often required.

Steamed Up WindowToo High Power

Or are you fed up of going in to your bath or shower room after another member of the family, only to find it is still really humid, resulting in it being boiling hot, and with the mirror nicely steamed up so that you cannot go and have a shave. This can be really annoying to say the very least can it not.

Energy SavingInefficient

Or you may find that your existing fan is on a separate switch to the light and is constantly being left on wasting electricity. Or you may find it is on the same switch as the light and stops when the light is turned off, when really it could do with running for another five minutes or so, or even until the humidity in the bathroom had dropped to an acceptable (pre-set) level.

Too NoisyToo Noisy

Or it may simply be just too loud, which can be really annoying at night or early in the morning. A noisy extractor fan could wake up the whole house if someone goes to the bathroom in the early hours, but most fans are almost silent these days: the noise doesn't need to be an added extra.

Replace Your Extractor Fan

If any of these situations are familiar to you then it sounds like you have the wrong or unsuitable extractor fan fitted to your room. Having the wrong or unsuitable fan fitted, means that it does not have the airflow capacity that it should have, or that it is remaining on too long or too little due to how it is wire in.

Fitting the wrong extractor fan is very easy to do, simply go in to any large Do It Yourself (DIY) and buy one marked “Bathroom extractor fan” – It should be suitable for your bathroom right? Well it maybe suitable for a bathroom, just not the size that your one is. A “One size fits all” approach does not apply to extractor fans as they are designed to have different airflow rates depending on the size of your room in cubic square metres. Buy the wrong one and it will not be up to the job; bathroom extractor fans simply won't work as a kitchen fan, so don't try it!

After all an under stairs toilet is a fraction of the size of a bathroom, so why expect to use the same bathroom fan for both?
